What's Being Built in Vaudreuil-Dorion

The region's biggest project by far: a 404-bed hospital under active construction at the intersection of boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes and Autoroute 30, with a 41-stretcher emergency department and 11 operating rooms. Construction began in February 2023; a gradual opening is targeted starting summer 2028, and the cost has grown from $1.7 billion (original estimate) to $2.6 billion (July 2026).

The only direct road link between Vaudreuil-Dorion and Montreal's West Island has been under full reconstruction since late 2023. The first new structure (5 lanes) is due to open starting late 2026, the second (bringing the total to 6 lanes, 3 per direction) by the end of 2027, then the old 1966 bridge will be demolished in 2029 with residual work wrapping up in 2030.

The new City Hall and municipal library, combined at the Pôle municipal, have been open to the public since February 2025. Phase 2 - an aquatic complex with three pools, a diving area, and 320-seat capacity - is in planning and funding for 2026-2029.

City council passed a resolution on May 19, 2026 seeking up to $20 million in provincial funding (the PAFIRS program), still awaiting government approval as of this research.

A multi-functional pedestrian and cyclist overpass across Highway 30 is under construction to link boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes to the new hospital site, with partial federal ($1.4M) and provincial ($2.1M) funding sought to complete the municipal budget. A $2.36 million cost overrun required a new borrowing bylaw; construction is underway for 2026-2027.

The bike-path network is also expanding in parallel: a new off-road multi-use link on rue Émile-Bouchard and a second phase on rue Valois are in progress or planned.

Several large residential projects are underway near boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes and boulevard Harwood:

The Vieux-Dorion (Old Dorion) sector will get a major overhaul ($21.5M, 2027-2029): water main and sewer replacement, separation of combined sewers, and a new storm-sewer outlet to Vaudreuil Bay. A sanitary network capacity expansion in the Dorion sector (roughly $80M, 2027-2031) is also planned, alongside a shoreline stabilization program ($7.15M, 2025-2030).

A covered, refrigerated, NHL-size outdoor skating rink with a roughly 100-seat pavilion is planned near École Hymme-au-Printemps (between rue Toe-Blake and rue Maurice-Richard), targeted to open by the end of 2026. Lit tennis and pickleball courts are also under construction on rue Valois near Parc Dorion-Gardens, expected to be finished by late summer 2026.

At École secondaire des Échos, a 6,500 m² synthetic sports field (roughly $4.3M) was in preparation as of March 2025; its current completion status could not be confirmed.

The Quartier de la Gare, a planned higher-density sector near the Vaudreuil train station, along with the Ravin-Boisé and Pôle Santé sectors, represent the city's next wave of residential development - see the Neighbourhoods page for what's confirmed about each.

The City publishes public notices (consultations, draft bylaws, referendums) on a continuously updated page - it's the most reliable source for whether a consultation is open right now. No public consultation was confirmed as actively open at the time of this research. City council meetings, which include a public question period, are held regularly at City Hall.
