Pet Rules - Licensing, Leashes & Dog Areas
Licensing your pet, leash rules, and where dogs can run off-leash.
Cats and dogs in Vaudreuil-Dorion need a lifetime municipal licence, dogs must be microchipped, and there are limits on how many pets you can keep and where they can go off-leash.
Pet licensing (médaille) is mandatory
Every cat and dog needs a municipal licence - a lifetime medallion, not an annual renewal. Cost is $10 for cats and $15 for dogs; a replacement for a lost medallion costs $5. You can apply online or through the Permits division.
Microchipping is mandatory for dogs
Since Règlement no 1771 (adopted May 19, 2020), dogs must be microchipped.
Pet limits
Residences are limited to a maximum of 2 cats and 2 dogs.
Leash rules
Off your own property, pets must be leashed (maximum 2 metres) or otherwise safely confined.
Potentially dangerous dogs
Dogs classified as potentially dangerous need a distinct coloured medallion and must be muzzled in public.
Off-leash dog areas
There are five designated off-leash exercise areas:
- Rue Marier (near Merisiers)
- Rue du Ruisselet
- Rue Lorne-Worseley
- Montée Cadieux / Avenue Saint-Charles
- Parc-nature Harwood
Leashed dogs in parks
Since summer 2024, leashed dogs are allowed in all municipal parks except specifically restricted zones, such as playgrounds, sports fields, and parts of Parc Le 405. Owners must carry waste-cleanup tools.
