History

This rural Second Empire-style brick house was built in the late 19th century, likely by landowners Michel and Joseph Denis-Saint-Denis. Singer-poet Félix Leclerc (1914-1988) bought it in 1956 and lived there until 1966, writing "Le Fou de l'Île" (1958) and other works on the property. The land was designated a heritage site by the City around 2005-2006, and the house was classified a historic monument by Quebec in 2009.

Why visit

The house is a direct, tangible link to one of Quebec's most celebrated singer-songwriters and poets. Since 2017, the City has run cultural programming and garden events there that reflect Leclerc's legacy.
